Bemygene, recognized with the 2nd prize of the 5U CV STARTUP competition

Bemygene Health Company has been recognized with the second prize of the 5U CV STARTUP competition, which seeks the most innovative and commercially viable ideas of entrepreneurs educated by the five public universities of valencian region. This company, established since 2015 in the Science Park, is dedicated to the sale in the Spanish market of international advances in the field of molecular and genetic diagnosis.

The recognition in this category means to Bemygene the delivery, by the Consellería of Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Trade and Work, of 5,000 euros. "We are a startup born of professionals educated at the University of Valencia, Nowadays te company is in a growth and expansion stage, so this award can be an aid to fulfill our objectives" explains its CEO, Teresa Valdés, who saw in the call "the opportunity to let us be known".

The Bemygene team is made up of "experts in genetics and molecular biology with extensive experience in cientific research as well as in business. Our goal is to position ourselves as a reference company and create a brand of quality and trust in the field of molecular diagnostics", continues Valdés.

Reach the citizens

At the moment, Bemygene is in daily contact with hospitals and clinics of the whole national territory. At the same time it collaborates with research institutes "that trust in us". "These contacts," explains Erika Manukyan, Business Development Manager of the company, "allow us to know firsthand the market needs and establish business strategies that reach us to the end consumer".

For the team, "genetics is a discipline that is increasingly present in our society; from this arises the importance of the creation of companies that can correctly introduce these advances and bring them closer to the population in order to the benefits can be reflected in them".

The other two companies recognized in the top category of the competition are from the Universitat Piolitècnica de València. They are Airhopping, who won the first prize, and Homyspace Business Housing, winner of the third.

Junior category

Also, the event has a category 'junior' in which can compete any entrepreneur or entrepreneurs with an emerging project that is not yet constituted as a company. Of the five prizes of 750 euros that have been delivered in this modality, two come from the University of Valencia.

One is CREEM, which is an emotional digital education project consisting of the development of a diagnostic and emotional monitoring application for children who are hospitalized for a long period of time. And the other is My Feeting Room, a service that radically improves the experience in the online sale of shoes using a 3D virtual model. It allows users to know what is the correct size to buy without having to try the shoe physically.

With regard to the University of Valencia, this initiative is carried out inside the Entrepreneurship Program "Empren +", coordinated by the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Scientific Policy. It has the collaboration of the Vice-Rectorate for Studies of Degree and Linguistic Policy and the University of València Science Park.
