The awards of the audiovisual competition for the promotion of scientific dissemination promoted by the University of Valencia Science Park Foundation (FPCUV), which counts with the support of the Council of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society, will be delivered on Saturday 10 May during the day of Expociència
The University of Valencia Science Park Foundation (FPCUV) announced on Wednesday the two winning videos of the scientific video contest, Media100cia. It is an initiative framed in the XVII edition of Expociència, in which students both university and non-university has been called to create videos of a maximum of 100 seconds and always with science as main narrative justification. The contest aims to encourage young people to start at an early age in the dissemination of science through current audiovisual formats.
The call has two modalities, university and non-university. In the first one, the proposal The wonderful AFPs against the world of fruit, made by Carolina Ropero, from the group of Fungal Biofactories of the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (CSIC), located in the scientific-PCUV academic area, and in the second, has been awarded the video It’s not magic, it’s science, prepared by students 1st and 3rd of Primary Education School Jesús María Fuensanta, Valencia.
The awards of Media100cia will be delivered on May 10 as part of the celebration of Expociència
The jury, when issuing the decision, has valued aspects such as originality, creativity, audiovisual production, narrative resources and informative content. In all these points the two winning videos have stood out over the rest of proposals, they will receive on Saturday 10 May, during the celebration of Expociència, each of them will be awarded with two gift vouchers of 100 euros. The presentation will take place at 12.00 in the Marie Curie Auditorium. All videos participating in the competition will receive a diploma.
How to make the fruit stop having fungi
The award in the university category went to Carolina Ropero, IATA researcher, with her video The wonderful AFPs against the world of fruit. This audiovisual piece shows us in a fun way and amuses his research in this institute of the PCUV so that the fruit stops having fungi, through the use of antifungal proteins, the AFPs. Thus, Ropero explains how this research is evolving with a view to future application in the agri-food industry.

Spreading science with magic
For its part, in the non-university category, the Colegio Jesús María Fuensanta, of Valencia, has won with its short film It's not magic, is science, in which the students of 1st and 3rd Primary show how to learn the secrets of science as if they were students of a magical academy, playful and educational. The dissemination of chemistry content, such as oxidation or refraction are some of the concepts that can be learned with this video, which has been developed with the help of his teacher Paco Durá.
