News # Sara Coutiño De León, IFIC researcher, will assume leadership of the Galactic Sources group 09/02/2026 Share this news: - ![](https://news.pcuv.es/hubfs/Blog/images/share.svg) - ![](https://news.pcuv.es/hubfs/Blog/images/printer.svg) ![](https://news.pcuv.es/hubfs/sara%20couti%C3%B1o%20de%20leon%20noti.jpg) ## Researcher Sara Coutiño De León, a member of the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), research center of the University of Valencia Science Park (PCUV), has been named Coordinator of the Galactic Sources working group within the international collaboration of the HAWC (High-Altitude Water Cherenkov Observatory) The Galactic Sources group is one of HAWC’s most active scientific teams. Historically, it has generated the most publications within the collaboration and plays a key role in the study of astrophysical phenomena of great interest such as gamma-ray pulsars and halos, supernova remnants, hadron and leptonic processes, and particle acceleration models in the Milky Way. The appointment implies for Sara Coutiño De León a prominent scientific responsibility, which includes the coordination and supervision of ongoing analyses, the organization of meetings and scientific activities of the group, the mentoring of young researchers, the preparation of publications, as well as strengthening international collaboration between more than a hundred scientists from different countries participating in HAWC. > "It is an honor to be part of the coordination of the Galactic Sources group at HAWC. This role represents a great responsibility and an opportunity to continue to promote key studies on the most energetic processes in our galaxy", Sara Coutiño de León, IFIC researcher The HAWC observatory, located in Mexico at over 4,100 metres altitude, is one of the leading experiments studying the sky in very high-energy gamma rays. Its contribution has been fundamental to advance the understanding of the most energetic processes in the universe. With this co-coordination, IFIC reinforces its presence in high-impact international collaboration and contributes directly to the scientific development of the experiment. "It is an honor to be part of the coordination of the Galactic Sources group at HAWC. This role represents a great responsibility and an opportunity to further advance key studies on the most energetic processes in our galaxy," says the researcher.
