The conference, organised by the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC, UV-CSIC) and the Institute of Instrumentation for Molecular Imaging (I3M, UPV-CSIC), brings together 200 participants from 14 countries between February 21 and 23** The meeting aims to promote collaboration and exchange of knowledge between the clinical and scientific-technological communities in order to design strategies for the optimal use of the future network of ten proton therapy facilities in Spain. In addition, the conference seeks to enhance collaboration and communication with international experts in proton therapy, and covers both clinical and technological experience. In order to meet these objectives, an international scientific panel formed by experts from Germany, France, England, Poland, Portugal and Switzerland participates in the event. The program includes guest speakers from different leading institutions in the clinical field, such as the La Fe Hospital in València and the two existing protontherapy facilities in Spain – Quirónsalud and University Clinic of Navarra – as well as from various European protontherapy centres. Unlike conventional radiotherapy, proton therapy allows most of the energy of the particles to be deposited in the tumour, which does not damage healthy tissue. The event was launched this morning by the institutional delegate of the CSIC in the Valencian Community, Juan Fuster, and by Bernardo Valdivieso, regional secretary of Planning, Information and Digital Transformation of the Valencian Government. The meeting, which in Valencia brings together 200 participants from 14 countries around the world, intends to tour the various locations within the future network of proton therapy facilities in Spain and extend to Portugal in the near future.
