The 9th edition of Exposcience 2017

The 9th edition of Exposcience, which will take place on 27 may at the Scientific Park of the Universitat de València. It will offer to visitors more than 80 scientific and technological activities focused on game, apprenticeship and fun. Visitors of all ages could enjoy this science party in which researchers and businessmen of this field will spend together with the visitors a Saturday morning full of proposals and good ideas.

Exposcience is the open day of the Scientific Park, the innovative ecosystem of the Universitat de València and a place where scientifics and businessmen work to make public this discipline to the productive sector and the society. The Scientific Park organises each year its science, technology and innovation party with the objective of make public its research activity to the visitors. This event will take place on Saturday morning in May. This year, the organization has prepared more than 80 playful and academic activities for everyone. Apart from the activities that the research institutes, enterprises and the School of Engineering (ETSE) offer every year, the party counts on the participation of several faculties and departments of the Burjassot Campus, as well as Feria Experimenta.

In this 9th edition, the Institute for Systems and Integrative Biology (I2SysBio) will participate for the first time. This is a new mixed research centre of the Universitat de València and CSIC, focused on the complex field of biological systems; and the Analog Devices enterprise, both institutions located at the Scientific Park.

Workshops of physics, chemistry, astronomy, biology and robotics will offer to the visitor the chance to get immerse in the most magical branch of science by recreating crystalline gardens, observing the Universe from the depths of the sea, or becoming a scientific police in a crime at the laboratory of genetics. It will be possible to draw in 3D; take up gastroscience just as the most important chefs do; prepare a blandiblú, launch a rocket, play with Lego robots, observe the cellules and detect environmental radioactivity. The open day will host the ceremony award of Natura Project Prizes, an initiative addressed to secondary students. The aim is to elaborate a natural scientific projects targeted to students of primary school and it is organized by the Faculty of Biology of the Universitat de València.

The visitors could also know how to be a great scientific, as the ones who work in the European Space Agency or the Large Particle Acelerator, as well as those whose job is to preserve the biodiversity, the energy efficiency and the environment. Some of these experts work at the Scientific Park and will attend the Exposcience.

The Exposcience 2017 will commemorate the Global Capital Status of Sustainable Food, which is occupied by Valencia after its nomination by FAO. The session will count on the collaboration of the city council and the IATA (Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology) proposals and the clinics of the UV, managed by Lluís Alcañiz Foundation. Regarding the sustainable food, Exposcience will also count on the participation of ‘La Tira de Contar’, an institution in charge of the commercialisation of Valencian fresh products. The Valencian orchards have its origin in the 12th century and a heritage value for Valencian population.

‘Science is not only important, but also essential for the future generations’, has stated the director of the Scientific Park. ‘Apart from being a playful activity, Exposcience tries to transmit this idea and to encourage student to take part in the science field’.

The dean Esteban Morcillo has emphasized the importance of the collaboration among institutions, as in the case of Exposcience in which the UV and CSIC work together in the dissemination of the knowledge and with the collaboration of the Valencian Government.‘All the state organisms should hold open days as the Scientific Park do. This is an excellent way of bringing the institutions closer to the public and showing them in what the money is invested’.

Exposcience, organized by the Scientific Park, receives lots of visitors each year and has the support of the Universitat de València and CSIC as well as the Valencian Government. The organization recommends the use of public transport.
