"You can not understand the medicine of the future without knowledge in Genomics and Genetics," says the CEO of IMEGEN, Angela Perez

The Institute of Genomic Medicine (IMEGEN), a biotechnology company specialized in genetic analysis services and installed in the University of Valencia Science Park, has launched Learning Genomics, an e-learning portal to train medical professionals in Genomics and Genetics that are their customers. "You can not understand the medicine of the future without knowledge in these two areas," assure the CEO of the company, Ángela Pérez.

The platform has 600 minutes of training distributed in 50 audiovisual pills. "The professional can design his training on demand, either looking for topics of interest, such as bioinformatics, genetic diagnosis, prenatal diagnosis or cancer, among others, or making the selection by references in this sector, such as, for example, the oncologist Pedro Pérez Segura", explains Ana González, Communications Manager at IMEGEN. "To understand us, it's like Netflix with latest genomic information," she summarizes.

The project of this platform, currently the first in this specialty in Spain, is to incorporate new content monthly. "We want the portal to be in continuous growth. To the purely theoretical formation, we will be adding the practical explanation of clinical cases of success, because we think that the experience of a companion can be useful for another professional who has a similar case. In addition, we will promote exclusive events with professionals, "says Angela Perez.

Training, a transversal pillar of IMEGEN

The Institute of Genomic Medicine was founded in 2009 at the University of Valencia Science Park by a team of scientists with more than 20 years of experience in management and today it has established itself as a leader in the field of Genomics and Genetics. "Throughout our experience, we have committed a lot to offer training to customers. And thinking about improving this objective, we have created this collaborative space among professionals that offers personalized consumption", highlights the head of the biotechnology company.

With a team of 60 professionals, mostly with higher degrees, analyzes biological samples sent by national and international hospitals to study whether patients have any type of mutation that could be the source of a genetic disease. IMEGEN currently offers 6,000 different types of genetic tests that address all stages of the person's life (prenatal, postnatal and adult), which makes it one of the 10 most extensive genetic test catalogs in the world.
