Red Hat, the world's leading provider of open source business solutions, has been installed in the University of Valencia Science Park (PCUV). Among the reasons that have prompted the opening of the new office, the company underlines the fact that "the values of collaboration and transparency of Red Hat are reflected in the culture of knowledge and technology exchange, as well as business growth of the PCUV" .
Red Hat has been betting for 25 years on the development of technologies based on open source and the continuous democratization of content and technology. From a collaborative approach, based on the development and constant improvement of technology, the North American company works sharing, learning, perfecting and taking advantage of the work of the open source community.
In words of Javier García Fiaño, Partner and Alliances Territory sales manager of Red Hat, "our commitment lies in being the drivers of collaboration between partners, customers and development communities to create technologies based on open source. The business and technological fabric of the Science Park will allow to develop new technologies and solve problems in a faster and more innovative way. In this sense, the opening of the office will allow us to access and collaborate with important companies that are investing in innovation and creating punctual technologies in their sector".
In this regard, Fernando M. Zárraga, manager of the University of Valencia Science Park Fpundation, entity responsible for the management of the business area of the PCUV, argues that "both newly created companies, such as startups and spin-offs, as well as consolidated companies in the market, as is the case of Red Hat, come and live in the Science Park, attracted by the proximity of top-level scientific resources, generated by competitive research institutes with a high international scientific impact; by the network of contacts with other innovative companies with which to transfer knowledge and technology; and by a diversity of services that this park provides them for the improvement of their competitiveness, among others, access to investment capital and qualified workers".
Currently around 80 companies, which generate more than 500 direct jobs, develop their activities in the University of Valencia Science Park with special relevance in the areas of Biotechnology, Medicine and Health; Information and Communication Technologies (ICT); Advanced Services, Energy and Environment; and Industrial, Material and Nanotechnological cluster. Four out of ten firms invest more than 40% of their budget in innovation. And in total, among the companies of the Science Park, there are 160 granted patents.
The PCUV, with a flexible and sustainable structure, is based on modern facilities where 1,500 professionals work, most of them graduates, who are located near the university campuses of Burjassot-Paterna and Tarongers. It has two complementary and differentiated areas: the Scientific and Academic Area, which is composed of two unique centers and seven research institutes, including a 'Severo Ochoa' (Institute of Corpuscular Physics - IFIC) and a 'María de Maeztu' (Institute of Molecular Science - ICMol), ministerial recognitions of research excellence; and the Business Area, which with 80 companies with a high innovative component in different sectors is an ideal environment for locating companies whose added value is knowledge.
