The Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain (APTE) has released its annual list of the 100 most outstanding startups of 2024, located in science and technology parks across 15 Spanish autonomous communities. Among them are Matteco and Persiskin, both headquartered in the Science Park of the University of Valencia (PCUV)

The companies located in the Science Park of the University of Valencia, Matteco, a materials technology company dedicated to decarbonising the economy and accelerating the energy transition with solutions for green hydrogen production, and Persiskin, a technology-based company that develops vegan leather similar to animal leather as a potential substitute for synthetic materials, made with over 75% plant-based materials, have been included among the 100 most innovative projects in Spain for 2024, according to APTE.

This ranking has selected initiatives in cutting-edge fields such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, clean energy, telecommunications, health, space, automotive, agrotech, blockchain, software, electronics, and environmental sustainability.

Eight of the 100 startups were created through the startup ideation and acceleration programme (APTENISA), promoted by APTE with the support of ENISA.

Additionally, among the 100 startups, there are 36 in which the CEO or founder is a woman.

To promote these startups, APTE has created a section on its website where users can access information about the sector in which each startup operates, the science or technology park where they are located, their website, annual revenue range, the investment received by each, their current investment status, and the year they were established. This information is complemented by a brochure containing descriptions of each company in both English and Spanish.

The aim of APTE with this initiative, now in its second consecutive year, is to recognise the 100 most outstanding startups from Spanish science and technology parks and highlight the quality and entrepreneurial capacity developed in these environments. It also seeks to facilitate the visibility of these companies to potential investors interested in high-growth projects.

These startups will take centre stage at the next edition of the Foro Transfiere, which will take place in Málaga from 12 to 14 March 2025. They will receive a special invitation to participate with a networking agenda, enabling them to hold meetings with potential clients and investors.
