The Onconourish project, developed in collaboration with Ibions, Datipic, and TheMoveMen, has been selected from over 100 proposals to join FOODITY, a programme funded by Horizon Europe. This initiative brings together technological and scientific leaders from across Europe to transform food systems through digital solutions focused on health, sustainability, and food equity, while ensuring respect for personal data rights.

Onconourish is a digital platform designed to enhance the personalised nutrition of people with cancer. Using artificial intelligence (AI), users can log their meals and receive tailored recommendations based on their clinical situation, preferences, allergies, and intolerances. This innovative approach aims to provide meaningful support during the oncology journey, combining advanced technology with a patient-centred design.

"Onconourish is ready to become a real solution. The team will work hand-in-hand with patients, alongside TheMoveMen, and data specialists at Datipic, to ensure the platform is effective, ethical, and adapted to the actual needs of users. The main goal is to improve the quality of life for people with cancer by focusing on nutritional education and leveraging advanced technologies," Julio Madrigal-Matute

Multidisciplinary Collaboration for Innovation

As part of the project, participatory workshops will be held with individuals affected by cancer to identify their expectations and suggestions. These workshops will not only ensure that the platform is practical and useful but will also facilitate its co-creation with its end users. Participants will gain free access to the app during the testing phase, providing valuable feedback for its continuous improvement.

The development of Onconourish is made possible through collaboration between several entities, each experts in their fields: Datipic, specialists in artificial intelligence and data science, responsible for integrating AI into the platform and ensuring ethical and secure management of user data; TheMoveMen, an organisation dedicated to raising awareness and supporting cancer patients, facilitating direct engagement with people affected by cancer to tailor the tool to their specific needs. Ángel Borque, head of the Prostate Unit at Miguel Servet University Hospital and a member of TheMoveMen, plays a key role in clinically validating the platform.

FOODITY Programme Launch in Vienna

The Onconourish team, comprising Kiko Borja Escribá (IBIONS), Ángel González Muelas (Datipic), and Julio Madrigal Matute (TheMoveMen and Universitat de València), participated in the FOODITY programme launch event on 27–28 November 2024 in Vienna. During the event, they presented the project, shared the platform's objectives with other European leaders, and took the first steps towards its development.

The project has secured €180,000 in funding to develop the tool, with support from a team of experts who will provide guidance over the next twelve months.
