Banco Sadadell and Prensa Ibérica -publisher of Levante-EMV, Información and Mediterráneo- recognized last September 26th in a crowded event at Las Arenas Hotel in Valencia the business excellence of the Valencian Community with the delivery of eight Banco Sabadell Business of the Year Awards, which value the importance of the business network as a lever of change essential for the progress of society. Among the eight winners, the biotechnology company Evolving Therapeutics, located in the University of Valencia Science Park, was recognized as a business initiative of excellence.
The CEO of Prensa Ibérica, Aitor Moll stressed that the aim of the awards is to recognize the importance of companies that “provide opportunities to the societies” where they are established. For his part, the deputy general manager and eastern territorial director of Banco Sabadell, Fernando Canós, emphasized that the awards are a recognition of the work, talent and commitment of Valencian companies whose vision and efforts make a difference to the economy and society. “We want to highlight the collective effort and innovative spirit that defines our region,” he said.
Startup of the year award
Evolving Therapeutics, a spin-off housed at the Institute of Integrative Systems Biology I2SysBio, at the University of Valencia Science Park (PCUV), received the Startup of the Year award. Pilar Domingo, co-founder and scientific director of Evolving Therapeutics, and Marisa Domingo, co-founder and CEO, received the award from Yolanda Pérez, director of Bstartup and Hub Empresa of Banco Sabadell. Evolving Therapeutics is a spin-off of the Universitat de València created to combat multidrug-resistant bacteria using viruses that feed on them.
“It is a source of pride to be here receiving the award together with my partner and sister,” said Marisa Domingo upon receiving the award. “Even though it is only one year old, we have fifteen years of research behind us. And we continue with all our enthusiasm and joy to continue improving people's lives,” she said.
“This type of recognition gives us visibility and allows customers to support us,” stressed Pilar Domingo, co-founder and CEO of the startup.
Evolving Therapeutics
Evolving Therapeutics is a spin-off of the University of Valencia located in the Science Park based on the implementation of the use of bacteriophages, bacterial viruses commonly known as phages, for the treatment of pathogenic bacteria under the One Health concept. They offer scientific advisory services and customized phage-based solutions for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pathogenic bacteria, including Human, Animal and Plant Health. As well as isolation and production of specific phages against problem bacteria, with pathogen-targeted, zero waste and environmentally sustainable therapies. Services include the diagnosis and detection of target bacteria through the development of phage-derived technologies, isolation and characterization of phages, use of phages as biocides or antimicrobials, as well as the implementation of personalized therapies.
