The pioneering biotechnology initiative, led by a consortium in which the company Overgenes of the University of Valencia’s Science Park is involved and funded by CDTI, aims to improve the health of older adults through an innovative digital system

Healthy aging is one of the great challenges of 21st century medicine. With the objective of advancing in this field, the HEALTH SENIOR 6P project has been selected in the Science and Innovation Missions 2024 call from the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) and will receive funding of 1,EUR 96 million until December 2025.

The initiative, led by a consortium of biotechnology-based companies, will develop the first multi-scale digital database on elderly health in the Mediterranean region. Among the partners are the Cofrentes Seaside Resort, specialized in preventive medicine and healthy aging; Overgenes, located in the Scientific Park of the University of Valencia, focused on genetic analysis and microbiota; and Ailin Health, which brings its expertise in self-extraction kits and biochemical analysis with artificial intelligence.

In addition to data storage and analysis, HEALTH SENIOR 6P will develop an accessible digital interface for patients, allowing them to consult and manage their health information autonomously

A digital biobank for precision medicine

The project will develop a digital platform designed to collect and analyze diverse elderly health data, including genetic information, biochemistry, microbiota, body composition and motor functionality. By monitoring an initial sample of 500 people, this tool is expected to facilitate the early detection of diseases and contribute to the personalization of medical treatments.

This digital biobank will study DNA and its variants related to aging, as well as the connection between intestinal microbiota and longevity. In addition, it will analyze biochemical markers in blood for early identification of pathologies, evaluate body composition with special attention to the risk of sarcopenia and muscle deterioration, and will measure locomotive functionality as a determining factor in the quality of life of patients.

HEALTH SENIOR 6P not only aims to improve the quality of life for older adults, but also to lay the foundations for new data-driven public health policies

Technology and innovation for health

In addition to data storage and analysis, SALUD SENIOR 6P will develop an accessible digital interface for patients, allowing them to consult and manage their health information autonomously. This tool will empower older adults in clinical decision-making and facilitate the implementation of personalized preventive strategies.

The Cofrentes Seaside Resort, with more than 140,000 overnight stays per year, will play a crucial role in collecting data in a real environment. Overgenes will lead the genetic and microbiota analysis, while Ailin Health will apply its technology in sample processing and self-diagnosis.

The project also has the collaboration of reference centres such as FISABIO, the Complutense University of Madrid and the Autonomous University of Madrid, which will contribute their knowledge in biomedical data analysis and healthy ageing.

An innovative model for public health

HEALTH SENIOR 6P not only aims to improve the quality of life for older adults, but also lays the foundation for new evidence-based public health policies. Continuous monitoring will help optimize prevention programs and develop more effective treatments, accelerating the transition to personalized medicine.

With this project, Overgenes and its partners consolidate their leadership in digital health innovation, driving the development of bio-health technologies based on digital systems and contributing to the well-being of the aging population.
