Ubesol Group, headquartered in the business area of the University of Valencia Science Park (PCUV), had a total consolidated turnover of 284 million euros in 2023, which represents a further growth of 5.8% compared to 268 million a year earlier. The group, which specializes in personal and home care, posted a net profit of 9.7 million euros, although it is still far from reaching the pre-pandemic figures, when it exceeded 20 million euros
Unlike previous years, this year it was once again the domestic market that grew the most in sales, especially with Mercadona, its main customer. These results are a reflection of the constant commitment to strong quality and service by the entire Ubesol Group team, which has offices and laboratories in the business area of the University of Valencia Science Park (PCUV).
Internationalization, especially sales to multinationals, is helping the group to strengthen its expertise and improve its knowledge of processes and suppliers, while at the same time making new demands on production processes. Precisely, this commitment to quality has led it to successfully renew, in its three plants, the IFS HPC certification, which evaluates the production processes to guarantee the quality and safety of the products.
Reinvestment is a constant in the group, which, in the last five years, has dedicated more than 66 million euros to this item, positioning itself as one of the leading manufacturers of wipes, shower gels, shampoos and deodorants in Spain
As for the group's investments, 7.5 million euros have been allocated mainly to improving production capacity, with the start-up of various automations, as well as a software upgrade on the high-speed lines. Reinvestment is a constant in the group, which, in the last five years, has dedicated more than 66 million euros to this item, positioning itself as one of the leading manufacturers of wipes, shower gels, shampoos and deodorants in Spain. And, in order to continue on this path of strong growth, in 2024 it plans to reinvest more than 20 million euros to strengthen its production plants and thus be able to meet the strong growth of its customers.
Artificial Intelligence, Talent and Sustainability
With respect to the other key pillars of the 20-25 strategic plan, digital transformation continues to advance by leaps and bounds at Ubesol Group, which is pioneering the implementation of generative Artificial Intelligence in all its processes and in training the workforce to extract the maximum value from this technology.
In terms of talent management, the company not only continues to focus on the creation of quality jobs (in 2023 it has increased its workforce by 12% to more than 1,000 people), but has also expanded its internal policies on work-life balance.
Ubesol Group's firm commitment to improving its social and environmental impact on its surroundings has led it to develop its 2030 sustainability plan, a roadmap governed by ESG criteria.
It has created a corporate responsibility department, which joins the existing communication department, to develop a strategic plan to address the social and environmental challenges of the local entities near its three plants in Atzeneta d'Albaida (Valencia), Ulldecona (Tarragona) and San Fernando de Henares (Madrid).
"With a view to 2024, we continue to reinvest heavily in the company, in order to keep up with the growth of our customers", Jorge Úbeda, CEO of Ubesol Group
In the environmental area and within the Net Zero GHG emissions target, the company intends to reduce its carbon footprint in the 2020-2030 period, make more efficient use of natural resources, achieve 95% in waste circularity, evaluate 100% of strategic suppliers and ensure that 75% of its products contain more than 90% of ingredients of natural origin.
As part of the professionalization process that the family group has reinforced in recent years, corporate governance has been strengthened with the creation of a Board of Directors, which has incorporated independent professionals with extensive experience in business management and control and who are aligned with the group's values.
The CEO of Ubesol Group, Jorge Úbeda, emphasizes that "2023 has been a year of normalization of supply chains, which has allowed us to slightly improve margins, thanks to optimizations in production processes, as well as in supply costs. Our commitment to maintaining our commitment to consistent quality every day and excellent service makes us a reliable partner".
"That is why, with a view to 2024, we continue to reinvest heavily in the company, in order to keep up with the growth of our customers, especially Mercadona, with the aim of increasing competitiveness in all our processes and remaining leaders in the categories in which we are specialists," adds Úbeda.
