The PCUV company, PersiSKIN, a technology-based company in the agri-food sector, consolidates its innovative proposal that provides a solution to the surplus of Valencian persimmon through the manufacture of vegan textiles, with the incorporation of its products to the market by the Spanish fashion startup Recovo and Grupo Antolin, a global provider of technological solutions for car interiors
In its commitment to vegan textiles as a substitute for animal and synthetic leather, the Valencian company PersiSKIN, located in the Parc Científic de la Universitat de València (PCUV), gains muscle with an investment of two million euros and with the participation of the research association of the textile industry AITEX, to move forward with this ecological proposal, a pioneering solution for the surplus of persimmon from the Valencian fields through the manufacture of a material composed of 100% natural products.
This novel fiber finds in the partnership with Recovo and Grupo Antolin an opportunity within its strategy to boost the international marketing of vegan persimmon leather, which will inaugurate from January 2023, within the scope of Recovo, the "materials of the future" section, where PersiSKIN will be available along with other new generation fabrics. And, in addition, it will develop together with Antolin its fabric to adapt to the requirements of the cars sector in terms of technical performance, perceived quality and with real parameters of minimum environmental impact throughout the life cycle.
"Currently more than 50 percent of the annual persimmon production becomes surplus that is not marketed," Jaime Sanfélix, executive director of PersiSKIN.
"In the last five years the persimmon harvest has undergone an exponential evolution, causing production to increase at exorbitant levels," explains Jaime Sanfelix, executive director of PersiSKIN. This increase in production has led to the fact that currently "more than 50 percent of the annual production is converted into surpluses that are not marketed". Within the agri-food industry, this sustainable bet represents "a challenge to give use and an outlet to the surplus product that is not marketed, giving rise to innovation and shape to this vegan leather", adds Sanfelix.
"The union is strength and having the support for the commercialization of reference companies within different sectors is of vital importance for the market to know first hand our product, its advantages, qualities and above all the social history that abandons its production. Our recent alliances, and more specifically the synergy that has arisen with Grupo Antolin, positions us in a constant supply of Persiskin around the world through its 140 factories in 26 countries", celebrates the CEO of the Valencian company.
