The campaign corresponds to a pilot experience to involve the Park's research and business community through the Smart Park program, which is supported by the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI), to reduce plastic consumption
Following the strategy of the European Union's Objective 2030 to reverse the impact of plastics on the environment and people's health by reducing their use, the University of Valencia Science Park Foundation (FPCUV) launches the campaign 'Be Water My Parc' in the facilities of the PCUV and the School of Engineering (ETSE-UV). This initiative, which is part of the Smart Park program and is aligned with the nominative line of the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI), and also has the support of Closca, comes with the aim of promoting the use of the network of fountains distributed in the Science Park and the ETSE.
Plastics awareness is key to achieving some of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG7); Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG11); Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG12); Climate Action (SDG13); and Undersea Living (SDG14).
The campaign, consisting of participating in the Closca Water application, has been designed as a gamification strategy. The challenges, which will be open every week to the entire PCUV community as well as the ETSE-UV, started on Tuesday, November 28, and the first one will end on Friday, December 15. To obtain a reward, participants must complete 5 refills which, in this first challenge, will win a PCUV-Closca thermos bottle, with the possibility of getting one of the 20 units that will be awarded each week.

"The real drivers of change are people, not just technology or innovation. The Smart Park project is about how each user can do his or her bit to make the world a better place from different perspectives. This year we are committed to the initiative to reduce the consumption of plastic bottles through an action as simple as going to refill the water fountains of the Science Park. With a small act we want the people who work at the PCUV to contribute to improving our environment. In addition, we want to be a model for other environments", explains Vicent Clemente, coordinator of the Smart Park program.
Smart Park was born as an initiative of the Valencian science parks, conceived as living labs to promote and evaluate developments that help improve people's quality of life. "Be water's action is inspired by campaigns similar to those initiated in other university environments, such as the Universitat Politècnica de València or the University of Alicante," adds Clemente.
