The University of Valencia Science Park Foundation (FPCUV) will hold on 28 October a new edition of Globaltech, the programme that promotes debate and training around public-private collaboration in the field of research, innovation and knowledge transfer
Under the title "Research, confidentiality and professional secrecy", the event will focus on the importance of protecting sensitive information and results derived from research activity, both in universities and research centres, as an indispensable condition for ensuring the proper transfer of knowledge to the productive fabric.
The session, which will take place at the Marie Curie Auditorium of the University of Valencia Science Park, will address from a practical perspective, preventive measures, Associated risks, legal instruments and good practices to safeguard confidentiality and secrecy throughout the research process, from conception of the idea to exploitation of results.
The programme, which will involve experts in the field of law, research and knowledge transfer, includes a presentation by Jaume Martí Miravalls, professor of Commercial Law at the University of Valencia, and a round table moderated by Jesús Olavarría Iglesia, full professor of UV commercial law, in which Javier Maira (CSIC), Clara Gómez Clarí (ICMUV), Ramón M. Girona Domingo (UV), Pilar Domingo Calap (Evolving Therapeutics) and Raúl Ruiz Rodríguez (UA) will participate.
"Our aim is to emphasize the need to raise awareness in the scientific community of the importance of implementing preventive measures from the earliest stages of research work. Only then will the transfer be effective and beneficial for all parties involved", Jesús Olavarría, academic director of Globaltech
The initiative, promoted by the University of Valencia Science Park Foundation in collaboration with the Intellectual and Industrial Property R & D group (GIPI) of the University of Valencia, under the academic direction of professors Guillermo Palao Moreno and Jesús Olavarría Iglesia, reinforces its institutional commitment to the dissemination of good practice in the field of knowledge transfer and innovation.
"Confidentiality and business secrecy are fundamental elements in the protection of knowledge generated at university. They are not only a legal but also a strategic guarantee that the results of research can be transferred safely and confidently to the business environment", explains Professor Olavarría.

A public-private research partnership space
Aimed at researchers and university staff, innovative and technology-based companies, transfer and innovation services, specialist lawyers, investors and other agents of the innovation ecosystem, the day seeks to become, Once again, in a space for shared reflection and learning on the legal and ethical challenges posed by the management of scientific knowledge.
Eva Alcaraz Sapiña, responsible for the legal area of the FPCUV and coordinator of the Globaltech programme, underlines the consolidated role of this initiative as a reference forum: "After six editions, Globaltech has become a space for meeting and debate on the many issues arising around public-private partnerships in research and innovation. We bring together universities, companies, researchers, lawyers, entrepreneurs and investors with the aim of helping to strengthen the ability to transfer to the market all the scientific knowledge generated in universities and research centres which has a high value for society", he says.

"Business secrecy and its relation to the transfer of research results into society, makes it necessary to identify good practices in the management of sensitive information that must be implemented in laboratories and research groups to convert these results into public capital and facilitate their transfer to society", explains Professor Palao.
"Our aim is to further promote the culture of responsible transfer, providing tools and examples that help researchers transform their results into safe and sustainable innovation. Protecting knowledge is protecting innovation", concludes Professor Palao.
Finally, the director of the Science Park, Pedro Carrasco Sorlí, underlines the relevance of this new edition of the programme: "The Science Park is a natural meeting point between science and business. In an environment where innovation is built on shared knowledge, it is essential that researchers and organisations know how to protect their results and build mutual trust. Globaltech contributes precisely to strengthening that culture of safe and responsible collaboration which drives collective transfer and progress".
