From the Fundation of the Science Park of the University of Valencia (FPCUV), we inform you that the deadline for registering in the fifth call of the MediaCiencia competition has been extended until Friday, May 2, so interested people are still in time to participate. It is a contest of short video or animation developed in 100 seconds, which is part of the events of Expociència. The event is aimed at both non-university and university students, with concerns in new audiovisual technologies and science.

We also inform you that some of the applications have forgotten to include the form on the Expociència website that must accompany the video, so you are still in time to submit it.  Please fill in the following form.

About Media100cia

The contents of the audiovisual works developed will have science, in all its extent, as the main narrative justification and will be evaluated in the 2025 edition elements that take into account accessibility, inclusion and diversity. The possibilities will be manifold: from recording scientific experiments during school hours, science fiction, raising questions relating to science, recordings of external activities, etc. The protagonists may be the same pupils or other persons, not necessarily minors. The main requirement will be that the recording and/or editing is produced and completed by the contestants.

The children and young people show and relate to their environment through reading and creating images, either fixed or in motion. This is a generation of young people with the aim of socialising through new information and communication technologies. This is one of the main visions pursued by Media100cia, given that the fact that they "write" with images the scientific reality around them can be more suggestive and attractive than any other mode of expression. The image is part of "your reality", a reality that can be discovered in a maximum time of 100 seconds.

Participation rules

The competition is aimed at a non-professional public, so that students have two forms of participation: university students and non-university students, whether primary education, secondary school, baccalaureate or training courses. In addition, the short film may be the result of the creativity of a team and directed by teachers, or an individual initiative; but provided that the product has not been awarded or qualified by another jury or court.

As for the technical rules, the maximum length of the video will be 100 seconds, including title, presentation header and possible credit titles. In addition, it will be presented in vertical format, in AVI, MPEG, MPEG-4, MOV or similar. The short film may be in Valencian or Spanish.

The deadline for registration has been extended to 2 May 2025.

Criteria to be assessed

The pieces will be evaluated by a jury composed of a/a specialist in the audiovisual sector, a/a lecturer from the University of Valencia, a/a researcher/a from the UV Science Park and a/a communication officer from the FPCUV. In this way, they will select those short films that have a better execution both technical/ creative and scientific information. The originality and creativity of the video, its own audiovisual production, the narrative resources used, as well as the informative content and the ability to produce transfer and knowledge about everyday science will be particularly valued.
