The Fundation of Universitat de Valencia Scientific Park (FPCUV) has launched the guide Artificial Intelligence: Practical Guide. Cutting-edge applications in strategic sectors, a work that analyzes how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming key sectors such as the economy, agriculture, health, justice, journalism and sustainability. The publication is part of the open innovation programme Innotransfer, promoted by the Valencian Network of Science Parks (rePCV) with the support of the Conselleria de Innovación, Industria, Comercio y Turismo.
Among the authors of the guide are the voices of Andrés Pedreño Muñoz, professor emeritus of Applied Economics, former rector of the University of Alicante and founder of 1MillionBot and the project Torre Juana OST IA HUB; Nuria Lloret Romero, Professor of Audiovisual Communication and Documentation at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Diversity Observatory; Juan Gómez-Sanchis, Professor at the Technical School of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (ETSE-UV), and José Blasco Ivars, director of the Valencian Institute for Agricultural Research (IVIA); and Francisco Javier Albiol Colomer, researcher at the Institute of Corpuscular Physics, who details the applications of AI in medical imaging. Also participating are Mercedes Sanchis Almenara, director of Innovation in Well-being and Occupational Health at the Valencia Institute of Biomechanics; Ana Isabel Blanco García, full professor of Law at the Universitat de València, who reflects on digital justice; Amparo López Meri, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences and full professor of Journalism at the Universitat Jaume I, and Lorena Cano Orón, assistant professor in the Department of Theory of Languages and Communication Sciences at the University of Valencia; and Vicente Botti Navarro, director of the Valencian Institute for Research in Artificial Intelligence (VRAIN).
The director of the Universitat de Valencia Scientific Park, Pedro Carrasco Sorlí, points out that the publication "represents a valuable tool for understanding and exploring the opportunities offered by AI in the current context, inspiring collaboration between all actors involved to build a more equitable and sustainable future, which reinforces the commitment of the Science Park to the promotion of advanced technologies and their ethical and practical implementation".
Coordinated by Kristin Suleng, responsible for the Communication and Marketing Area of the FPCUV, the guide brings together provides a complete overview on the impact of AI, highlighting both its opportunities and the ethical, social and technical challenges it poses. This handbook is designed to inspire companies, researchers and public policy makers to explore and implement innovative solutions.
Among the featured chapters, Andrés Pedreño Muñoz discusses the global impact of AI and the challenges facing Europe in the technological race against the United States and China. Proposes strategies such as investment in technology hubs and public-private partnerships to strengthen the continent’s competitiveness.
In the agricultural sector, Juan Gómez-Sanchis and José Blasco Ivars discuss how AI is revolutionizing this field with precision farming techniques, helping to optimize resources such as water and fertilizers, and promoting sustainability.
The field of health also occupies a prominent place. Francisco Javier Albiol Colomer details the applications of AI in medical imaging analysis, improving diagnostic accuracy and optimizing healthcare resources. In the field of occupational health, Mercedes Sanchis Almenara explains how AI can identify ergonomic risks and personalize recovery treatments after absences from work.
In the chapter on justice and technology, Ana Isabel Blanco García reflects on the use of AI to democratize access to justice, while warning about the ethical risks associated with this transformation.
In the field of communication, Amparo López Meri and Lorena Cano Orón analyze how AI is impacting journalism, exploring tools like ChatGPT and proposing guidelines to ensure transparency and ethics in content generation. This analysis includes recommendations for technology not to compromise the essence of the journalistic profession.
The guide is closed by Vicente Botti Navarro, who approaches sustainability from an AI perspective, highlighting its ability to transform key sectors such as agriculture and smart cities, and promote sustainable solutions for the future.
