Specialists analyze at the Science Park the role of university TBCs as a key to innovation

The University of Valencia Science Park Foundation (FPCUV) organizes on November 14 an event within the framework of the GLOBALTECH program, with the aim of providing an overview of the various issues that arise in the process of establishment and subsequent development of TBCs, especially those that have their origin in the research conducted at universities, this being one of the ways to articulate the transfer and exploitation of research results and to promote collaborative innovation.

The IV Conference on public-private collaboration in the field of research and innovation: university EBTs as innovation levers, an initiative of the University of Valencia Science Park Foundation (PCUV), in collaboration with the GI+Dpi Group, the University of Valencia (UV) and the Generalitat Valenciana, will be held on Tuesday, November 14 from 9:15 am to 12:30 pm in the Marie Curie Auditorium of the PCUV. The meeting, which will be held in face-to-face and online format, focuses on Technology Based Companies (TBCs) as levers of innovation, especially those that have their origin in the results of research conducted at universities.

During the conference, which will consist of two round tables, both the recent reform of the Science Law and the LOSU will be analyzed, two points which, according to Professor Jesús Olavarría, co-director of the conference, "consolidate, together with teaching and research, the transfer of knowledge embodied in research results as the third mission of universities and research centers. In such a way that these results can be incorporated into the productive system as a means for their benefits to reach the welfare of people". The EBTs are one of the ways in which this mission is materialized, says Olavarría, and "one of the ways in which public-private collaboration can be materialized with the aim of promoting research and innovation for the benefit of society as a whole," he adds.

"The EBTs are one of the modalities in which this mission is materialized and one of the ways in which public-private collaboration can be materialized in order to promote research and innovation for the benefit of society as a whole", Jesús Olavarría, co-director of the conference

Professor Guillermo Palao, co-director of the conference, emphasizes that the first round table "will feature the experiences of leading researchers who have promoted and participate in these EBTs, from their origin to their development and consolidation, university managers who are responsible for supporting and channeling these initiatives, as well as the opinion of investors who facilitate and promote the birth, development and consolidation of this type of companies". Likewise, Palao points out that "in the second round table, legal experts will analyze the most relevant issues and problems related to EBTs, which may arise in their preparation and incorporation phase and in the development and consolidation phases".

Fourth edition

After four editions of GLOBALTECH conferences, Eva Alcaraz, head of the program, describes the balance as "very positive", as she points out that "there is great interest in public-private collaboration in the field of R&D&I, in its various forms, as has been very evident in previous editions, both in the massive attendance, reaching, in some cases, more than 1,500 views on the YouTube platform, as well as in the numerous downloads of the two electronic publications that are available free of charge on the Science Park website". She also adds that "likewise, this IV Conference will have as a result, the Conference itself, the recording of the same that can be viewed on the Parc's website and the corresponding ebook".

"We are aware that this is a great moment for public-private collaboration. Solutions to some of the great challenges we face as a society can emerge and develop from it. But we are also aware and cannot ignore its difficulties and the need for this collaboration between all the agents involved to remain stable and prolonged over time. This is the only way this collaboration can bear fruit in the medium and long term", Eva Alcaraz, head of the Globaltech program

As for the expectations for the IV edition of the GLOBALTECH Conference, Alcaraz hopes that "as in past editions, it will continue to be a forum for meeting and debate on public-private collaboration in research and innovation and the different ways in which it can take place". "We are aware that this is a great moment for public-private collaboration. From it can emerge and develop solutions to some of the great challenges we have as a society. But we are also aware and we cannot ignore its difficulties or the need for this collaboration between all the agents involved to remain stable and prolonged over time. Only in this way can such collaboration bear fruit in the medium and long term. This is what we modestly intend to contribute to", she concludes.
