About Biodriven Technologies
Biodriven Technologies is a biotechnology startup born in 2023 as a spin-off of CSIC, with the participation of IATA-CSIC. Its mission is to transform organic waste into compostable and sustainable bioplastics such as PHA, PLA and PBAT through microbial fermentation processes, purification and advanced formulation. This initiative is based on decades of CSIC scientific research in polymer biotechnology and environmental microbiology.
It has a multidisciplinary team that combines knowledge in systems biology, food technology and process chemistry to develop complete solutions: from the production of the biopolymer to its application in final products. They also have the capacity for industrial prototyping (extrusion, 3D printing, injection) and regulatory advice.
Biodriven Technologies, a company in which IATA director Amparo López is involved, has been distinguished for its innovative approach to the development of biomaterials capable of transforming key sectors into more sustainable models
Its products are mainly oriented to sectors such as food, cosmetics and packaging, offering sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics. Its approach promotes the circular economy, using waste as raw material and reducing the environmental footprint. Supported by programs such as COMTE-Innovation and European funding, Biodriven Technologies is positioned as a solid bridge between the science of the CSIC and the industrial market.
