From 13 to 14 November 2025, CaixaForum València, located inside the building Àgora of the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, will host the ninth edition of the 100xCiencia.9 congress, the annual meeting promoted by the SOMMa Alliance (Alliance of Centres of Excellence Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu). Under the theme "Science for Society, Touching Consciences", the event will bring together leading researchers, R & D management professionals, representatives of politics and citizens with the aim of reflecting, dialogue and building bridges between science and society for a more sustainable future
The congress represents a unique opportunity to make visible the scientific excellence and social impact of the work carried out in the Severo Ochoa centers and the María de Maeztu units that are part of the SOMMa Alliance. In this edition, five scientific institutions of reference in the Valencian Community, including 3 located in the Science Park of the University of Valencia (PCUV), will act as hosts, providing their leadership in strategic areas to address major global challenges.
The Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA-CSIC), located in the scientific-academic area of the PCUV and accredited as Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence, is at the forefront of research in food science and technology. This centre leads studies on the interaction between diet and health, exploring how eating habits influence consumers and developing new foods that respond to current needs and challenges. In addition, IATA is driving innovation in areas such as the use of nanotechnology and more sustainable materials for packaging or the application of micro-organisms to transform the food industry. Its commitment to knowledge transfer consolidates it as a leader in collaboration between science, industry and society.
The Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol), which also belongs to PCUV and is accredited as a Maria de Maeztu Excellence Unit continuously since 2015, specializes in molecular chemistry and nanotechnology. His research focuses on functional materials and advanced molecules for technological applications such as sensors, electronic devices and sustainable energy. The ICMol stands out for its contributions to frontier materials design and its impact on cutting-edge chemistry.
The Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), which is located in the PCUV, accredited as Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence and affiliated to the University of Valencia and the CSIC, focuses its research on particle, nuclear and astroparticle physics. The centre actively participates in international projects such as those at CERN, providing fundamental knowledge about the origin of the universe and the laws that govern it. In addition, IFIC has established itself as a benchmark for the training of new generations of researchers in theoretical and experimental physics.
The choice of Valencia as the venue for the 100xCiencia.9 congress reinforces its position as a scientific and technological pole of reference in Spain. With a strong scientific tradition, a network of centres of excellence and a strong commitment to outreach and social connection, the city is positioned as the ideal location to host an event that places science as an engine for development and transformation
In addition to these three institutions of the UV Scientific Park, from the Valencian Community organize this congress the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ), joint centre of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and the CSIC, as well as world leader in catalysis, green chemistry and materials development for sustainable energy; and the Institute of Neuroscience (IN), a joint centre of CSIC and the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche, focusing on knowledge of the biological bases of the brain and nervous system, as well as in the development of therapies for neurodegenerative diseases and neurological disorders.
Science and Citizenship: an open meeting in the city of Valencia
The 100xCience.9 congress will not only be a forum for the scientific community, but also an open space for citizens. The programme will include participatory and outreach activities for all audiences, fostering dialogue on issues such as sustainability, health, energy and climate change. This integrative approach will bring science closer to all audiences and make its relevance visible in our daily lives.
