The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities has recognized eight researchers from the University of Valencia (UV) for their scientific contribution to the post-disaster reconstruction on the first anniversary of the catastrophe of October 29, 2024. Among them, Juan M. Soria, researcher at the Cavanilles Institute of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (ICBiBE), in the University of Valencia Science Park
The awards, awarded yesterday Wednesday 19 in Picanya in an event that distinguished individuals and institutions of the scientific community, support the performance and management of the academic institution on the days of the catastrophe and subsequent.
The event was attended by the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, who argued that science must be heard and applied. Furthermore, she stressed that it cannot be left in the background, because knowledge protects, orients and saves.
Morant gave the winners a tile made from the remains of dana. This is an innovation developed by CSIC scientists with which urban furniture, paving stones, benches and planters are already being manufactured to rebuild streets and buildings in the affected areas.
At the event, 73 individuals, institutions and recognized entities from the scientific community have been awarded. The selection has been made on the basis of the criteria of all government ministries and the National Scientific Advisory Office (ONAC). The awards were attended by Eloísa del Pino, director of the Superior Council for Scientific Research, and also, among others, José Ángel Núñez Mora, head of Climatology of AEMET in the Valencian Community.
