Samuel Mañas (ICMol), awarded for his contribution to two-dimensional magnetism

15/01/2026

Samuel Mañas Valero, Ramon i Cajal researcher at the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) in the University of Valencia Science Park and at the Technological University of Delft (Netherlands), has been awarded the IEEE Magnetics Society’s Early Career Award in its 2026 edition

The promising research career of Samuel Mañas Valero, a researcher at the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol), located in the scientific-academic area of the University of Valencia Science Park (PCUV), has earned him recognition for his contributions to the advancement of two-dimensional magnetism by discovering molecular and inorganic Van der Waals magnets and new heterostructures that explore phenomena related to molecular engineering and storage control.

Mañas Valero obtained his PhD in 2021 with the thesis "Two-dimensional crystals and heterostructures of Van der Waals based on strongly correlated inorganic and molecular laminar materials", tutored by Eugenio Coronado, Director of ICMol and Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Valencia (UV). Mañas’s thesis was chosen as the best of its year in the discipline of Nanoscience by the Specialized Group of Nanoscience and Molecular Materials (GENAM) that jointly form the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry and the Royal Spanish Society of Physics. He also received the Young Scientist award from the European Magnetism Association (EMA) in 2023 which recognized his contributions to molecular magnetism at the two-dimensional boundary.

With a degree in Physics from UV, Samuel Mañas has continued his research at the Delft University of Technology (Netherlands) where he is currently undertaking a post-doctoral stay as a member of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie programme funded by the European Commission, research excellence.

The IEEE Magnetics Society is an international professional society within the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and is dedicated to the promotion of science, technology and applications in magnetism, Being the main reference in this field worldwide for the scientific community.
