The researcher played an important role in consolidating the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), research center of the UV Science Park, in its modern stage, where he promoted basic research of excellence and its applications in the field of medical physics

At the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), located in the scientific-academic area of the University of Valencia Science Park (PCUV), deeply shocked by the sudden death of his colleague, professor and professor emeritus José Bernabéu Alberola (Mutxamel, 1945).

Pepe Bernabéu graduated in 1967 from the University of Valencia and obtained his doctorate in physics in 1970, also by the University of Valencia, with an extraordinary prize. Between 1971 and 1978 he worked at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN), in Switzerland, being the first Spaniard to be part of the theoretical division.

He returned to Valencia in 1978 and developed a brilliant career as an exceptional teacher and researcher, supervising more than 20 doctoral theses and training generations of physicists and physicists who have always passed on their passion for science, his intellectual rigour and commitment to research and teaching.

José Bernabéu Alberola played an important role in consolidating the IFIC into its modern era, where he promoted excellent basic research and its applications in the field of medical physics

In addition, Bernabéu played an essential role in the development of particle physics in Spain and in the growth of the theoretical physics group in Valencia. He was director of the Department of Theoretical Physics at the University of Valencia and manager of the National Plan for High Energy Physics.

He also played an important role in the consolidation of IFIC into its modern phase, where he promoted excellent basic research and its applications in the field of medical physics.

His extraordinary career has been recognized with important distinctions: in 2008 he received the King James I Prize for Basic Research and, in 2011, the Physical Medal of the Royal Spanish Society of Physics. He was also a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Spain and an honorary academician of the Real Academy of Medicine of the Valencian Community. He was chairman of the board of HEP-EPS.
