About UV Astronomical Observatory

The University of Valencia Astronomical Observatory (OAUV) is the oldest university observatory still in operation in the Spanish state. It was founded in 1909 by the renowned Valencian astronomer and professor of the University of Valencia Ignacio Tarazona Blanch and declared of Public Utility in 1920.

The OAUV has its current headquarters in the Science Park UV, on the Burjassot-Paterna Campus of the Universitat de València (UV), where research, teaching and cultural dissemination activities are carried out and coordinated in the field of astronomy and astrophysics.

In its dissemination work, it is worth mentioning the Sky's Clasroom, an educational project resulting from the agreement between the University of Valencia and the Council of Education and Culture of the Generalitat Valenciana.

The telescope facilities of the Observatory are located in the town of Aras of the Olmos (known as Observatory of Aras of the Olmos, OAO), where both professional astronomical observation projects and student training tasks are carried out, as well as a variety of information activities.
