The Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Valencia has been appointed as a member of the Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (CACTI) of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, for a four-year renewable term, which will begin in June. Martínez is one of the thirteen new faces of this advisory council
At the XV meeting of the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (CPCTI), chaired by Minister Diana Morant, held on April 27, it was agreed to renew the composition of the Advisory Council, taking into account the applications received in the public call for expressions of interest made by the Ministry of Science and Innovation. After evaluating all the CVs received, it was considered that their training and professional experience merit their status as members of this Advisory Council on Science, Technology and Innovation.
The Minister explained that, in total, the Advisory Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CACTI) has increased from 18 to 20 members, since two representatives of civil society have been incorporated, as established in the new Science Law. Among the functions of the CACTI are to advise and inform the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the proposals of the Spanish Strategy for Science and Technology and Innovation (EECTI) and the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation. It also advises the governments of the State and the Autonomous Communities and the Council for Scientific, Technological and Innovation Policy.
The Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (CACTI) is the body for the participation of the scientific and technological community and economic and social agents in matters related to science, technology and innovation.
Along with Vicent Josep Martínez, the new members of the CACTI are Mónica García (Ingenio, CSIC-UPV), Manuel Ausaverri (Indra), Shandra Cordobés (Fundación Tecnalia Research & Innovation), Marc Güell (Universidad Pompeu Fabra), Diego Moñux (SILO), Eva Ortega (Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas), Laura Olcina (Federación Española de Centros Tecnológicos), Josep A. Planell (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya), Nuria San Servando (Fundación para la Transformación de la Rioja), Luis Sanz (Instituto de Políticas y Bienes Públicos), Jon Mikel Zabala-Iturriagagoitia (Universidad de Deusto) and Izabela Zych (Universidad de Córdoba).

Martínez, full professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Universitat de València since 1991 and full professor since 2009, was for 11 years director of the Astronomical Observatory of the Universitat de València, a singular center of the scientific area of the Parc Científic de la Universitat de la Universitat de València (PCUV). His teaching activity earned him in 2011 the Award for Teaching and Dissemination of Physics of the RSEF and the BBVA Foundation and in 2016 the Award for Teaching Excellence of the Social Council of the UV.
He is a founding member of the Spanish Society of Astronomy. In 2017 he was elected coordinator of the Astronomy Infrastructure Network (RIA) by its steering committee, the body that regulates singular Spanish scientific-technical facilities in astronomy.
He does research on the formation and distribution of galaxies. He has published more than 80 articles in high impact journals, with more than 2000 citations, and is the author of two university textbooks and several popular science books that have received several awards. He has attended as a speaker at numerous international conferences, carried out research stays in centers in Switzerland, France, Holland, Denmark, Italy and the United Kingdom, and given seminars at universities around the world. He has been principal investigator of Consolider projects of the Ministry and Prometeo of the GV.
Defender of the importance of transmitting science to society, the professor has promoted initiatives such as "El Aula del Cielo". He has also given more than a hundred talks, published numerous articles in newspapers, and created the web portal Conec.es. For this work he received the 2013 José María Savirón Award.
