The Science Park and AgrotecUV participate in the Employment Forum of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences

Innovation, management, research and transfer mark the professional opportunities for Pharmacy and Food Sciences in this employment forum, where AgrotecUV, the high-tech incubator specialized in sustainable agro-food has been present, together with the Science Park of the University of Valencia

Graduates of the Faculty of Pharmacy i Food Sciences resumed the celebration of the Employment Forum of the University of Valencia on 24 March, after having been suspended on 4 November as a result of the dana. The hall of the Faculty has hosted the stands of some 40 companies and entities as part of a job fair dedicated to providing information on the profiles most in demand in today’s labour market, specialized information on access to about 30 job and internship opportunities, options for training or continuing training in languages and other fields, etc. 

The fair was also an opportunity to participate in a networking between students and companies where they were able to access highly qualified profiles and those, in turn, direct information from the pharmaceutical, nutritional, dietary and hospitality sectors, of health and biomedical research foundations, laboratories, public administrations, NGOs, professional associations and business associations, as well as official master’s degrees and university services. In this event have participated the Science Park of the University of Valencia and AgrotecUV, the incubator and accelerator of the University of Valencia (UV), with the aim of making known the activity of the institutes and companies of the institution, as well as their work activity. 

About 40 companies and around 30 job opportunities at the Employment Forum of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences

Promoted by the Vice-Rector for Continuing Training, Teacher Transformation and Employment through UVocupació and the General Fundation UV, the Employment Forum of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences, has as its main objective to open the doors for students to new employment opportunities, and to connect them with companies and institutions interested in meeting the professionals of the future.

The welcome to the Forum that has opened the dean of the Faculty, Hortensia Rico, who has referred to this event as the "commitment of the University and companies with a solid future and full of opportunities for our students", followed by the Rector of the University of Valencia, María Vicenta Mestre, who concluded the event recalling the importance of the studies of this Faculty, dedicated to the field of health and quality of life, and the opportunities for future professionals offered by the Employment Forum. Mestre and Rico visited the stands of the companies, entities, institutions and professional associations of the Forum, accompanied by the Vice-Rector for Continuing Training, Teacher Transformation and Employment, Ángeles Solanes; the manager of the General Fundation UV, Cristobal Suria; the team of the Faculty; and the delegate of the Rector for Employment and Practices, Jesús Soret.

Thus, the day of this Monday 24 March has started with two round tables specialized in the exits of the degrees offered by the Faculty: the degree in Pharmacy and studies in Food Sciences.

Pharmaceutical industry, microbiology and research

Addressed to students of the degree in Pharmacy, the first table has brought together three professionals graduated from the University of Valencia as referents for the exercise of the profession beyond the hospital or street pharmacy, traditional or historical experiences which are also experienced during the course of the curricular traineeships.

From Sandoz Pharmaceutical, María Rubio has presented the professional development within the pharmaceutical industry, which is usually associated with marketing or product selection and which, on the other hand, offers other outlets such as management, development, the launch and supply of new production lines, plus an "extraordinary" investment in the patient. On the other hand, from the University Hospital of La Ribera, doctor Virginia Pérez has shown how studies in pharmacy allow different specializations; in his case, for example, in microbiology. Finally, Doctor Diana Vicente, clinical trial coordinator at the Health Research Institute La Fe of Valencia, has defended the figures of the pharmacist and the pharmaceutical industry as agents of public health, and has indicated ways out in this direction, leading to research.

Restoration, events, audit and innovation

Food Science is made up of degrees in Food Science and Technology, Gastronomic Sciences and Human Nutrition and Dietetics. The Career Opportunities Table has had the interventions of four professionals equally graduated from the University of Valencia, who, from their experience. They have described the path to work at first and how career growth then takes place within the company.

Sara García de Noceda, dietitian and gastrologist, who told us how she came to the catering company Servalia as a dietitian and then moved on to technical and management tasks; Mimi Petkova, who has explained how from the Gastronomic Sciences you can also work in event planning or kitchen management, which is for her a vocational question; Raúl Anquela, graduated in Food Science and Technology, who is currently an industrial quality auditor at the Luxembourg-based company Ferrero, but who previously worked as a laboratory analyst and as a technician and quality manager, and who has pointed to other outlets in the degree: responsible for the quality management system, auditor or consultant for quality and food safety, and innovation and development technician; and Marta González, CEO and founder of the food innovation company Sigma Biotech: she is a food technologist and nutritionist, and more than 18 years ago launched this project to offer a private and personalized R & D & I service to the food industries.

Language learning, stays abroad and in other Spanish cities, continuing and specialized training (master’s or doctoral thesis), attitude, values, Social skills and vocational competences are other aspects which have all been highlighted in the search for employment and career development.

The training and information provided at these tables was completed by a workshop on managing the professional network Linkedin and creating and positioning personal brand in order to open doors in the labour market, Vocational guidance staff.
