The event, organized by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the State Research Agency, commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Ramón y Cajal Programme, one of the most relevant initiatives in the Spanish scientific system and has had scientific staff from the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC) and the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol)

The celebration has served to recognize the group of researchers who, over two and a half decades, have driven the advancement of knowledge, innovation and scientific progress in our country. It was attended by several researchers who are or have been beneficiaries of the Ramón y Cajal Program and who develop their activity in the academic institution. Among them, several people associated with the University of Valencia Science Park (PCUV): Sergio Pastor Carpi, deputy director of the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), Rosa Córdoba Castillo and Javier Segarra Martí, researchers Ramón and Cajal of the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol). The commemorative event was attended by the rector of the University de Valencia, Mª Vicenta Mestre

The rector, M.ª Vicenta Mestre, stressed that "the University of Valencia is deeply proud of the talent that drives our scientific system. The Ramón y Cajal Program represents a determined commitment to excellence and the incorporation of new generations of researchers who contribute to the progress of knowledge and who, together with the efforts of universities, has been instrumental in stabilising researchers of excellence at Spanish universities and research centres".

The Ramón y Cajal Contract Support Programme offers doctoral research staff the opportunity to consolidate their careers and establish their own lines of work in universities and public research centres. Throughout this quarter century, many researchers at the PCUV have benefited from this program, thanks to which they have consolidated their lines of work and contributed to the scientific leadership of the institution in key areas of knowledge.

Since its creation in 2000, the Ramón y Cajal Program has established itself as an essential tool to attract and stabilize research talent. In the 2024 call, the programme has reached a record allocation of €131 million to finance 494 postdoctoral fellowships. In total, more than €1,746 million has been invested over these 25 years from the European Social Fund, the European Social Fund Plus and the European Commission’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

As part of the commemoration, the Ministry has created a badge to recognize the contribution to the development of knowledge, innovation and social transformation in Spain of each of the beneficiaries of the programme, doctoral researchers from all scientific disciplines with a distinguished track record. In addition, the State Research Agency has launched a website dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the programme, where beneficiary staff can apply for their badge and consult activities planned for this event.
