Science and humor, the UV Science Park celebrates Christmas with a day of informative monologues

Written by admin | 15/01/2026

On the occasion of the Christmas holidays, the University of Valencia Science Park (PCUV) hosts a very special day on 19 December, which will feature three monologues and a short institutional message from Pedro Carrasco, director of the PCUV at the Marie Curie Auditorium. Afterwards, an aperitif will be held, including a toast, addressed to the entire research community and the business area of PCUV

The University of Valencia Science Park Foundation (FPCUV) has prepared a very special Christmas program. On 19 December, the Marie Curie Auditorium at the University of Valencia Science Park (PCUV) will celebrate a Christmas day at 12:00 pm with three humorous science monologues by scientific and outreach staff Raquel Núñez, Daniel Pellicer and Carlos Romá

Raquel Núñez, a biologist specialized in scientific communication, brings the monologue To err is human. Her intervention invites us to discover all the evolutionary tangles hidden in the human body. Life does not arise from an impeccable design, but from a process of continuous adaptation: evolution. Far from being an architect who builds perfect organisms, evolution is a process that recycles, adapts and improvises.

This produces countless "design errors" that are quite uncomfortable to suffer from, but which turn out to be the ideal subject for criticizing in a monologue. So Nuñez proposes to take out the colors of evolution and laugh at some ailments that we suffer: from nerves kilometers to the blind spot of the eye, without forgetting the painful sciatica and the risk of choking us by wanting to gossip.

On the other hand, Daniel Pellicer, a biotechnologist specializing in biomedicine and expert in scientific communication, presents Life is complicated. Life is complex and changing, and has always been so, it has been bouncing back and forth, but not only humans, but all living beings on this planet. Along the way there are millions of life forms that were fascinating and have left their mark on us.

In this way, Pellicer offers a fun journey through the history of life on Earth, its footprints in fossils, DNA and embryonic development, and the fascinating ability of living beings to make their way in an ever-changing world.

Finally, Science, excellence and misery: lights and shadows of scientific productivity will close the monologue program, by the hand of Carlos Romá. It is a monologue that uncovers the less visible truths of the scientific world: publish or die, protect results, stabilize professionally or survive funding.

Romá will expose the dilemma between investigate or undertake, publish or die, promote or escape and explain the truths about the dark dualities of career. A critical, honest and biting look at the dualities of the research career.

After the monologues, at 12:50 pm Pedro Carrasco, director of the University of Valencia Science Park, will give a brief institutional speech to take stock of the year and congratulate all staff working at the PCUV.  At 13:00 h will be the turn of the Christmas aperitif, which will take place in the hall of the Auditorium and that will have a very special toast.

People and companies or research groups interested in attending this event should register on the form below. From the UV Science Park we continue to bet on the meeting between our research and business staff, especially on these important dates.

Daniel Pellicer

Daniel Pellicer Roig is a biotechnologist specialized in biomedicine and expert in scientific communication. Works as a publicist in media such as National Geographic Spain and À Punt Media. Also acts as a documentalist for other professionals, such as the YouTube channel La Hiperactina, to ensure that scientific content reaching networks is rigorous, accurate and understandable to the public. He is involved in innovation and knowledge transfer projects through university networks such as RUVID (Network of Valencian Universities for the Promotion of Research, Development and Innovation) and forms part of other university staff training projects.

Raquel Núñez

Raquel Núñez has a degree in Biology from the Faculty of Biological Sciences of the University of Valencia and holds a master’s degree in History of Science and Scientific Communication, which have given her the tools to communicate and transmit her passion for nature. After graduation, she started as a full-time educator-disseminator at the Oceanogràfic of Valencia, where she currently works generating educational resources and designing scientific dissemination projects.

During her academic journey, she discovered one of the most fascinating and misunderstood animals on the planet: sharks. The critical situation of these animals has motivated her to use all available communication tools to raise awareness about their importance. From there, the AtracTibu Project emerged, an innovative communication initiative that became her Master’s Thesis. This passion for sharks led her to join l'Associació LAMNA, an entity dedicated to the research and conservation of sharks and rays of the Valencian coasts, where I work as Communication Manager to disseminate our projects and initiatives.

Carlos Romá

Carlos Romá Mateo is a biochemist and doctor in molecular biology and genetics. Full Professor of the Department of Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Valencia, develops his research in the laboratory of Physiopathology of Rare Diseases (UV-INCLIVA-CIBERER), looking for links between intracellular signaling and epigenetic regulation mechanisms that intertwine minority pathologies with other diseases of greater prevalence. Also coordinates teaching innovation projects based on the use of graphic narrative for teaching human physiology.

In parallel to his research and teaching work, he has developed a prolific activity as a scientific communicator, writing on his own blog, other websites, giving talks, monologues and participating in radio programs, and in general at all kinds of scientific dissemination events. Editor at Principia and co-creator and screenwriter of the bio-science fiction comic book The OOBIK proteotype together with illustrator Gerardo Sanz, as well as author of some popular books on epigenetics, genetics and evolution.
