The digitisation of the economy is one of the objectives of the European Union to exploit the full potential of industry 4.0. In order to ensure that any company in Europe, of whatever sector, location or size, can reap the full benefits of digital innovation, the European Commission is carrying out the accreditation of Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH).
"A Digital Innovation Hub is an ecosystem made up of startups, spin-offs, SMEs and large companies, research institutes and centres, incubators and/or accelerators, investors and government bodies, which acts as a one-stop shop to help companies become more competitive using digital technologies", explains Mariano Serra, head of Information and Communication Technologies at the University of Valencia Science Park Foundation and who has led the application.
From today, the University of Valencia Science Park is configured as an DIH and becomes a centre that provides access to the latest knowledge and, at the same time, a regional contact point that incorporates a wide range of services for digital innovation, "relying on the technological skills of two institutes of the academic institution and fifteen firms installed in its business area," indicates José María Mateu, an innovation agent in this project.
In this way, its commitment is to ensure that every company, whether high-tech or not, can take advantage of the digital opportunities offered by both the Institute of Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC) and the Image Processing Laboratory (IPL), such as the companies Analog Devices, B&R Automation, Adapting, Dawako, Doitplenoptic, EOLAB, I+D Solutions, Kanteron Systems, Lifesequencing, Mobiliza, Moderlark, Nothingbutnet, Porib and Way2ecommerce, whose areas of work are ICT and advanced services.
With this accreditation from the University of Valencia Science Park, the Valencian region now has six DIH in operation: four in Valencia (PCUV, Insomnia, Hub4Manuval, The Data Cycle Hub), one in Castellón (Espaitec) and another in Benidorm (Dinapsis). "The support of the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society has been key in the application process for this accreditation", stresses Juan José Borrás, Director of the PCUV.
