The full university professor of the Universitat de València Jose Antonio Sobrino has presented this Wednesday the fifth edition of the International Symposium ‘Recent Advances in Quantitative Remote Sensing’ that will take place at the Auditori de Torrent from 18 to 22 September. Scientists from the NASA and the European Space Agency will take part in this conference in order to debate and exchange experiences on the remote sensing.
Jorge Hermosilla Pla, Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation of the Universitat de València and Jesús Ros, Mayor of Torrent, have taken part in the presentation of the symposium.
In this scientific conference the recent advances in the methodological developments in remote sensing will be discussed.
The opening ceremony will take place on 18 September at 9:30 and the Spanish astronaut Pedro Duque will take part in. From that day on, Torrent will host more than 200 congressmen among whom the 75% are foreigners. They come from more than 20 different countries to represent the most important scientific and space communities and agencies such as NASA or the European Space Agency.
The head of the Global Change Unit and president of the congress, José Antonio Sobrino, has highlighted the importance of remote sensing in the current situation of history since ‘it is now an aspect that is taken into account in the decision-making at a global level’. This congress will make possible ‘to discuss the recent advances in the methodological developments in remote sensing with the aim of facilitating the exchanges and the scientific discussions’. The Mayor Jesús Ros has thanked José Antonio Sobrino for working so that ‘this type of events of international relevance can be celebrated in our town’. He has also affirmed on behalf of the town council that they are always willing to take part in this kind of initiatives.
The Vice-principal Jorge Hermosilla has expressed the support on behalf of the institution that he represents and he has affirmed that José Antonio Sobrino has made a great work for ‘bringing scientific excellence to Torrent in a field whose applicability in any of the territorial levels is becoming increasingly important’.
The symposium will host five free sessions with 60 conferences that has been chosen by the International Scientific Committee and 200 posters in interactive events. The works generally focus on the advances and recent applications of the different research techniques and methods used in remote sensing and, in particular, aspects such as land surface radiation and inversion modelling; multispectral and hyperspectral Remote Sensing and Imaging Spectroscopy; multiangular and multitemporal measurements; scaling, fusion, reduction and assimilation of data; advances in consolidated datasets of Essential Climate Variables and their impact arising from the Climate Change Initiative; Carbon and Water cycle observation and modelling; land cover/use and change; global change and sustainable development; sensor calibration, atmospheric correction, and product validation; passive and actives microwaves & SAR data processing/ applications; laser active remote sensing and fluorescence; close range remote sensing and Earth Observation Missions & Services.
The congress will end with a general conclusion prepared by the presidents and participants of every session period and the final statements will focus on the key points of the presentations as well as in the trends of the future research programmes.
Moreover, in this congress the National Institute of Aerospace Technology will present for the first time the Fénix aircraft, which is devoted to support the natural resources study. To this will be added many other news and researches will be launched in Torrent.
