A team made up of researchers from the University of Valencia and Heinrich-Heine University (Düsseldorf, Germany) has recently identified a new function for the Dom34 protein: the specific synthesis of enzymes for the formation of glycoproteins of the cell wall of the yeast Candida albicans. It could be a possible target for therapies to treat candidiasis, a disease that is increasingly prevalent as a hospital-acquired infection. Their study has been published in PLOS Genetics.
