Gustau Camps, of the LPI, named a 'fellow' of the American Geophysical Union

29/09/2025

Gustau Camps-Valls, researcher at the Image Processing Laboratory (LPI), located in the scientific-academic area of the University of Valencia Science Park (PCUV), has been named a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the largest international organisation dedicated to Earth and space sciences. Through this recognition, the AGU highlights the scientific excellence of Camps-Valls, who will receive the distinction at the official ceremony to be held next December in New Orleans (USA)

Gustau Camps-Valls joins the select group of 52 individuals distinguished by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), one of the most influential scientific organizations in the field of earth and space sciences. Founded in 1919 within the US National Research Council. The AGU was consolidated as an independent entity in 1972 and has since played a central role in promoting research at a global level. In addition to editing some of the most prestigious scientific journals in the field, such as Geophysical Research Letters and Journal of Geophysical Research, it organizes each year the AGU Fall Meeting, one of the world’s most important congresses in its field.

On this occasion, Camps-Valls has been distinguished for its research and innovation in the use of machine learning applied to remote sensing. Their pioneering methodologies have significantly boosted the development of the field and have also contributed to the training of new generations of researchers.

As a fellow of the AGU, Camps-Valls will act as an international expert, advising both government agencies and organizations outside the strictly scientific field. The 2025 awards will be presented during the official AGU25 ceremony, which will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana (USA) next December.
